What affects burn time?

Wax type, wick size, number of wicks, fragrance load, room temperature and drafts all affect burn time. Soy and coconut burn slower than paraffin.

How long should I burn a candle at a time?

Burn for a maximum of 4 hours at a time. This prevents the container from overheating and the wick from mushrooming. Allow the candle to cool for at least 2 hours between burns.

Why does my candle burn faster than estimated?

Multiple wicks, draughty rooms, larger wicks and high fragrance loads all increase burn rate. These estimates assume ideal conditions.

How We Calculate This

Burn time is estimated using average consumption rates per 28g (1 oz) of wax:

Soy: ~6 hours, Paraffin: ~4.5 hours, Coconut: ~7 hours, Beeswax: ~6.5 hours, Rapeseed: ~6 hours

Burn time = (wax weight / 28) x hours per oz / number of wicks

Multiple wicks consume wax faster, roughly proportional to the number of wicks.
