What is aspect ratio in chainmaille?

Aspect ratio (AR) is the inner diameter divided by the wire gauge. It determines which weave patterns are possible. Most patterns require a specific AR range to work properly.

What AR do I need for European 4-in-1?

European 4-in-1 works best with an AR of 3.0-4.0. Below 3.0 is too tight for the rings to interlock. Above 4.0 produces a loose, floppy weave.

How do I measure jump ring size?

Measure the outer diameter (OD) across the outside of the ring. The inner diameter (ID) is OD minus twice the wire gauge. UK suppliers usually list OD and wire gauge.
