How do I find the volume of my embed?

Place the object in a measuring jug of water and note how much the water level rises. That displacement in ml equals the object volume in cm³. Dry the object thoroughly before casting.

Can I embed any object in resin?

Most non-porous objects work well: dried flowers, coins, glitter, small toys, photos (sealed first). Avoid fresh organic material, anything damp, or items with trapped air. Seal porous items with a thin resin coat first.

How do I prevent embeds from floating?

Pour a thin base layer (about 1/3 of the mould depth), let it gel until tacky but not fully cured, then place your embed and pour the remaining resin. The tacky surface holds the embed in position.

What about air bubbles around embeds?

Coat the embed in a thin layer of resin first and pop any bubbles. Once this cures, place the coated embed in the mould. This pre-coating traps far fewer bubbles than placing a dry object directly into resin.

How the Calculation Works

The mould volume is calculated by geometric formula. The volume of any embedded objects is subtracted (they displace resin). A waste allowance is added for mixing cup residue and spillage.

Rectangle: L x W x D. Circle: pi x r² x D. Hemisphere: 2/3 x pi x r³. Sphere: 4/3 x pi x r³.

Resin needed = mould volume - embed volume + waste %.
