How thick should resin coasters be?

Standard resin coasters are 0.5-1 cm thick. Thinner coasters (0.5 cm) are lightweight and economical. Thicker coasters (1 cm or more) feel more substantial and allow for deeper embedded designs, but use significantly more resin and take longer to cure.

How much pigment should I add to resin?

For mica powder, use 2-5% by weight of the total resin. Less gives a translucent shimmer, more gives an opaque effect. Alcohol inks need only a few drops per 30 ml. Liquid pigments are typically used at 1-3%. Too much pigment can interfere with curing.

What size are standard coasters?

Standard round coasters are 9-10 cm (3.5-4 inches) in diameter. Square coasters are typically 9x9 cm or 10x10 cm. Larger coasters (12 cm) suit oversized mugs and wine glasses. Silicone moulds are sold in all these sizes in the UK.

Can I make coasters in batches?

Yes. Mix enough resin for all coasters in one go to ensure colour consistency. Work quickly within the pot life (30-45 minutes for most epoxy). Pour each mould promptly after mixing. For large batches, mix in stages to avoid the resin overheating from exothermic reaction.
