Why does soap need to cure?

Curing allows excess water to evaporate (making a harder, longer-lasting bar), the crystal structure to complete forming, and the pH to drop to a skin-safe level. Uncured soap may be too soft, harsh, or short-lived.

Can I use soap before it is fully cured?

Technically yes, most cold process soap is safe to use after 48 hours. However, it will be softer, dissolve faster, and may be slightly more drying. For the best experience, wait the full cure time.

Why does Castile soap take so long?

Castile soap (100% olive oil) produces a very soft bar initially. It needs 8-12 weeks for the oleic acid to crystallise fully and create a hard, mild bar. Patience is rewarded with an exceptionally smooth soap.

How should I store soap while curing?

Place bars on a rack with air circulation on all sides. Store in a cool, dry room away from direct sunlight. Turn bars every week for even drying. Avoid plastic-wrapped storage during cure.

Does hot process soap need curing?

Hot process soap can technically be used immediately since saponification is complete. However, a 1-2 week cure still improves bar hardness and longevity as water evaporates.
