How do I calculate cost per design?

Divide the roll cost by the total roll area (width x length) to get cost per cm². Multiply by the design area (width x height) to get cost per design. This gives the true material cost per item.

What about wasted vinyl?

This calculator estimates based on the design area. In practice, weeded areas, margins and offcuts add waste. For a more accurate cost, add 15-25% to account for waste depending on design complexity.

Which is cheaper - sheets or rolls?

Rolls are almost always cheaper per cm² than pre-cut sheets. A 30cm x 3m roll costs about £6-10, while a single A4 sheet costs £1-2. Rolls save 40-60% for regular crafters.

Should I include transfer tape cost?

Yes, for adhesive vinyl projects. Transfer tape typically adds £0.02-0.05 per design. For HTV (heat transfer vinyl), transfer tape is not needed as the carrier sheet is built in.
